How To Talk To Family And Friends About Your Direct Selling Business

Mar 28, 2023

When you’ve discovered an opportunity or product that gets you excited, you’ll want to shout about it from the rooftops – this is the power of word-of-mouth marketing.

It’s natural to want to share your success in direct selling with your loved ones, but you might also be cautious about mixing friendship with a business opportunity. While you should certainly be focused on finding prospects outside your immediate circle, there will be times when your next recruit is someone you know.

Here are four tips that will help you share your love of direct selling with family and friends.

Find the right fit
No matter how passionate you feel, not everyone will be interested in purchasing your products or joining your direct selling team. And that’s okay. Before you approach your family or friends, consider who’s most likely to be a good fit for the opportunity. These might be people who have:

● Expressed an interest in becoming an entrepreneur or running their own business
● Been curious about how direct selling works
● Commented on how healthy you look, since you started using Jeunesse products
● Have an outgoing personality and like to connect with people

These types of people are a great place to start.

Consider their reasons
There are so many reasons someone might be interested in direct selling. Some will be looking to generate a new income stream; others might be keen to make new friends. Some might be motivated by the challenge of building their own business, while others will be looking for a fun hobby to give them fulfillment outside their day job.

Often their reasons for joining might be quite different to your own so don’t assume they’re the same. If you can understand what’s motivating their interest in Jeunesse, you’ll be more likely to be able to connect with them in a way that’s meaningful.

Choose your moment
Ambushing a family member at the buffet table to talk to them about direct selling is never a good idea. You need to be strategic about the moment as well as the person.

Look for an opportunity to weave it into a conversation in a natural way. For example, if you’re chatting about how the cost of living is going up, you might mention that you’ve been building a side business to help bring in some extra money each month.

Instead of delivering a sales pitch, invite them to ask you questions about your business and how it works.

Know when to stop
If your friend or family member isn’t interested in hearing about Jeunesse, don’t take it personally and don’t try to change their mind. You can still stay connected as friends, even if their hobbies and interests are different to yours. Treat your direct selling business like a job and don’t let it get in the way of your friendships.

Don’t forget that if any prospect – including friends and family – asks you to stop talking about Jeunesse, our Code of Conduct specifies that you must do so immediately.

When you do connect with those people who are interested in joining, it makes it even more special. Visit this blog to find out how to keep the momentum going as you build your direct selling team.
